Coronavirus Outbreak Update
May 1, 2020
The coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, where our travel insurance policies will respond subject to the terms and conditions of your state approved form. While our plans continue to pay claims and respond to the multitude of named events and perils we cover, you should NOT buy our plan for the purpose of responding to COVID-issues like closure of borders, resorts, airline cancellations, governmental restrictions, or general concerns over travel as those are not covered.
Trip Cancellation Coverage
- Reimbursement for trip cancellation due to concern or fear of travel associated with sickness, epidemic, or pandemic is not covered. Also excluded from trip cancellation benefits are any travel advisories, government regulation or prohibition for travel, and your destination being inaccessible due to this illness.
- However, your travel insurance policy does include trip cancellation coverage for many reasons including any injury, accident, death, or sickness or you or an insured that stops you from traveling on doctors’ advice; including loss of job. In fact, the vast majority of our claims are paid for these other reasons, completely unrelated COVID. Yet, if you contract the coronavirus and a doctor advises you are unfit to travel before your trip, you may be eligible for trip cancellation coverage.
It is important to note other travel insurance benefits included in your comprehensive travel insurance plan still apply when traveling:
- Emergency Medical coverage: can provide coverage if you get sick or injured on your trip, including if the traveler were to contract the coronavirus and require treatment on their trip.
- Emergency Medical Evacuation coverage: can provide coverage if it is determined by a medical provider that a sick traveler requires an emergency medical evacuation to the nearest hospital or back home.
- Trip Interruption: can provide coverage if it is determined by a medical provider that a sick traveler cannot continue with a trip and must return home. If you are quarantined during your trip as a result of coronavirus, you may be covered under trip interruption for expenses up to the limit of coverage in your specific plan.
- Other Benefits: Trip Delay, Baggage, Rental Car Damage (where allowed), and more.
Other Options unique to this COVID situation
BEFORE your original travel date arrives, contact the provider you purchased our plan through:
- Move Travel Dates: If your reservation can be moved to a future travel date, we allow you to move your “per-trip” plan travel dates without fee. Or,
